An Efficient Method for Model Reduction in Diffuse Optical Tomography

We present an efficient method for the reduction of model equations in the linearized diffuse optical tomography (DOT) problem. We first implement the maximum a posteriori (MAP) estimator and Tikhonov regularization, which are based on applying preconditioners to linear perturbation equations. For model reduction, the precondition is split into two parts: the principal components are consid...

Ultra low frequency noise laser by locking to an optical fiber delay line

We report the frequency stabilization of an erbium-doped fiber distributedfeedback laser using an all-fiber based Michelson interferometer of large arm imbalance. The interferometer uses a 1 km SMF-28 optical fiber spool and an acousto optic modulator allowing heterodyne detection. The frequency noise power spectral density is reduced by more than 40 dB for Fourier frequencies ranging from 1 Hz...

All-optical, actively Q-switched fiber laser.

All-fiber lasers offer increased robustness and simplicity over other fiber laser systems. Current active Q-switching techniques for all-fiber lasers rely on electro-mechanical transducers to strain-tune an intra-cavity fiber-Bragg grating, which adds complexity and can lead to vibrational sensitivity. An all-optical technique for achieving active Q-switched operation is a more elegant approach...

High efficient actively Q-switched Ho:LuAG laser.

We present the room temperature Q-switched performances of a Ho:LuAG laser operated at 2.1 microm. At the repetition rate of 10 kHz, the maximum average output power of 9.9 W with a slope efficiency of 69.9% relative to absorbed pump power was obtained in Ho:LuAG laser. Also, the minimum pulse width of 33.0 ns was obtained, corresponding to the peak power was 30.0 kW.

Optical delay line memory model with efficient algorithms

Akhilesh Tyagi Iowa State University Department of Computer Science Ames, Iowa 50011 E-mail: [email protected] Abstract. The extremely high data rates of optical computing technology (100 Mwords/s and upward) present unprecedented challenges in the dynamic memory design. An optical fiber loop used as a delay line is the best candidate for primary, dynamic memory at this time. However, it pos...
